Kevin Races the Calgary Half-Ironman
On Sunday, July 24 I will be racing in the Calgary Ironman 70.3, a Half-Ironman distance Triathlon taking place in Calgary and the surrounding foothills. The race begins with a 1.9km swim in Auburn Bay in South Calgary, followed by a 90km bike ride out to Bragg Creek and back along the rolling foothills and finishes with a 21.1km run along the shores of the Glenmore Reservoir in Calgary.
This race is a huge personal challenge for me, as it is 4x longer than any triathlon I have raced in previously and will require ~150 hours of training over the next four months if I want to reach my goal finishing time of 6:15, yes, that’s six hours and fifteen minutes!
I am going to use this race as an opportunity to raise money for a charity that is near and dear to my heart, the Alberta Cancer Foundation. Every one of our lives have been touched by cancer in some way. I personally have lost two grandparents to this terrible disease, and also have family and friends currently fighting their own cancer battles. I will be racing in their memories and honor, and will be doing my part to raise as much money as possible to continue the fight against Cancer.
Any support you are able to offer will be greatly appreciated, this is a battle we can win!
$2,500 Fundraising Goal
Along with my training log information, I am going to do my best to check in with training updates through blog posts every few weeks, which will be listed below. I will also be posting tidbits from the road on Instagram!
In order to achieve my goal of finishing the race in 6:15 or less, I have created a detailed training plan, which I am diligently following. If you would like to follow-along on my training for the race, you can check out my live training dashboard below, or check out my GPS Watch Data for every workout!
